Importance of Mental Downloading

Have you ever been driving your car, or walking the dog and had that moment of "Oh S#@t, I forgot to make that call or return that email"

Who am I kidding, of course you have! This happens to most of us on a daily basis and one key strategy that will help you gain control over forgetting to action items of various importance is Mental Downloading.

Our minds have between 60,000-80,000 thoughts a day, everyday, so there is a large amount of information being thrown around in our minds and easy to see why we forget to action certain tasks or objectives throughout the day.

I liken this process to a washing machine, where we might have 100 different items in the washing machine, every now and then we can see certain items clearly, but most of the time its just 100 items being tossed around in the washing machine.

Downloading things that take up our mental space help us to increase our performance for a variety of reasons.

Firstly, the downloading of thoughts helps us to clear our mind, reducing unnecessary anxiety that is attached to trying to hold onto these thoughts, secondly the downloading process helps us to create some clarity and structure around what tasks or objectives that need to be actioned.

One of the empowering elements of consistently going through the downloading process is helping you filter what thoughts you need to delete and what thoughts are of importance.

The easiest way to begin the downloading process is to spend 5mins at the end of each day with a notepad and pen, writing down all the things that are floating around in your mind. And I mean EVERYTHING that is floating around!

These thoughts are floating around for a reason, the downloading process helps us to de-clutter and by putting pen to paper really helps us to see with clarity, the nature of these thoughts.

Another powerful aspect of putting pen to paper is managing the distracting effects these thoughts have on us between our work times, helping us to switch off from work and recharge our mental batteries.
